France’s political mess leads to removal of two ministers in less than two years

(MENAFN) On Monday, Francois Bayrou lost a vote of confidence due to austerity measures, which makes him the 4th prime minister that was removed in under than 2 years in France.

A series of prime ministers such as Elisabeth Borne, Gabriel Attal, Michel Barnier and not long ago Francois Bayrou, they all got pushed to withdraw, since the beginning of 2024.

On January 2024, resigned the first PM, Elisabeth Borne, because of being unable to secure backing for highly controversial pension reforms.

In 2022, she was seen as Macron’s backup plan, she managed approximately 60 laws, such as changes to unemployment benefits, but she was criticized for employing Article 49.3 23 times, which gave her the nickname “Madame 49.3.”

Article 49.3 of the French Constitution grants the government to enforce enactment of a law without the need to vote as long as the parliament passes an action of no confidence.
