Sebastien Lecornu Gets Reappointed as French Premier

(MENAFN) French President Emmanuel Macron has reappointed Sebastien Lecornu as the country’s new prime minister as of late Friday evening, following his earlier resignation on Monday.

The Elysee Palace issued a short statement confirming Lecornu's new mandate, assigning him the responsibility of assembling a fresh government.

This decision followed several rounds of discussions with leaders from various political factions.
"I accept — out of duty — the mission entrusted to me by the President of the Republic: to do everything possible to ensure France has a budget by the end of the year and to address the daily concerns of our fellow citizens," Lecornu stated on the platform X, owned by the American social media company X.

He emphasized the necessity of resolving the ongoing political turmoil "which exasperates the French people," pledging to fully "fulfill" his assigned mission.

Lecornu also confirmed that "all the issues discussed during the consultations of recent days will be open to parliamentary debate," stressing that both lawmakers and senators would be allowed to engage thoroughly, with discussions proceeding without obstruction.

He further noted that bringing France’s public finances back on track remains a top concern, asserting that "no one will be able to evade this necessity."

Additionally, Lecornu pointed out that "all ambitions are legitimate and useful," but clarified that individuals entering the new administration must be willing to put aside any presidential aspirations for 2027.

According to him, the new cabinet must reflect a sense of renewal and incorporate a range of skills and backgrounds.
