France Says It Faces Russian Information Campaign Over Ukraine Support

(MENAFN) France says it faces Russian targeting in the information sphere due to its strong support for Ukraine, according to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Pascal Confavreux, as stated by reports.

Confavreux says, “Russia is ... attacking Ukraine first and France second,” while speaking to Radio Classique.

He adds that Europe as a whole is “under attack” from both east and west, speaking in broader remarks on regional pressures.

He also links part of this pressure to the European Union’s global attractiveness, pointing to indicators such as lower poverty levels and higher life expectancy compared with other regions.

“This attractiveness should not be underestimated, nor the fact that we are being targeted,” he says.

According to Confavreux, Europe’s diplomatic positions, especially its support for Ukraine, have increased pressure on the continent, adding that France is “probably” a secondary target of Russia in the information domain.
